The Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada (CDPAC) will host its fourth pan-Canadian conference titled Integrated Chronic Disease Prevention: It Works!
The 2012 conference, will take stock of advances that have been made with regard to integrated action for chronic disease prevention in Canada; the successes, the challenges, the gaps, and the opportunities. In recognition of the multi-factorial causes of chronic diseases, the emphasis will be upon ‘what works’; how are sectors coming together for collaborative action on chronic disease prevention.
The conference plans to build on the previous three conferences and focuses on how individuals, organizations, strategies and sectors have collaboratively acted on the root causes of chronic disease in Canada. Producing the greatest gains in the health status of Canadians will require continued urgent action to reduce the inequities that give rise to chronic diseases.
To advance the collective progress toward a comprehensive system that reduces inequities and chronic disease, the conference aims to:
• Showcase collaborations that successfully address inequities related to chronic disease and demonstrate collaborative leadership.
• Engage a broader range of sectors, disciplines and departments, for more inclusive and effective action on the systemic factors that create health inequities.
• Enhance knowledge and skills among stakeholders for integrated chronic disease prevention.
• Provide opportunities for informal networking and creation of action oriented linkages across individuals, organizations, strategies and sectors concerned with inequities and chronic disease prevention.
• Encourage all conference delegates and their respective sphere to make a commitment to take action, building upon evidence and knowledge shared and generated at the conference.
