The CAMH AIM Program has a recreational therapist to lead Tri-fit (Gentle Stretching, Tai Chi and Yoga) and Therapeutic Breathing as a part of an array of programs. Since many of our clients are suffering depression, an active lifestyle is a part of the healing journey.
Tri-fit: This program is an introduction to Gentle Stretching, Tai Chi, and Yoga. It is offered twice a week. The goal of the program is to improve physical functioning, improve mood, increase socialization, and improving routine and structure. Participants are provided with handouts on exercises to continue the program independently at home upon request.
Topics for handouts include:
- Top 10 exercises: Keeping things simple
- The home support exercise program
- Workday Prep.: 24 flexibility exercises are designed to prevent the buildup of on-the-job stress in the various parts of your body
- Tai-Chi 18 forms
Therapeutic Breathing: This program focuses on using specific rhythms of breath to eliminate stress, support the various organs and systems within the body, transform overpowering emotions, and restore peace of mind. Participants learn a variety of breath techniques such as Ocean breath, Bellows / Power breath, Om, Cyclical breathing at varying rates – slow, medium and fast. Goals for the program include reducing levels of stress; relieving anxiety and depression; enhancing brain function; increasing mental focus and calmness and enhancing health and well-being.
