Pathways is a part of the outpatient mental health in the Rouge Valley Health System (hospital in Scarborough) and offers social recreational programs, which include:
Aerobics - hired an instructor 2x per week
Walking - 2x per week, we walk around our facilities for 1 hour (in the winter we walk indoors); additionally 2x per week we walk at the hospital track for one hour (indoors)
Yoga, gentle stretching - we have various relaxing activities every day
In addition to these, we have health promotion activities:
We have a nurse to a health chat 1x per week and a nutritionist once a month, a smoke busters group 1x per week, and a closed addiction group 1x per week.
Our program is funded by the Ministry of Health - Special Vote and we partner with CMHA to provide the facilitators for the addiction and smoke busters group. Our nurse and nutritionist are from West Hill Community Services.
We are working on peer leadership with the CMHA and Community Resource Connections of Toronto who offer the WRAP training program at our facility. We consult with our clients in a community meeting regarding programming. CMHA provides peer leadership training.
All of our programs have been well received by our clients. However, our success is a challenge sometimes when we don't have enough room in our aerobics class on Monday. Another challenge is not having replacement staff, so when staff is away programs get cancelled.
