A community mental health program offered by Seneca College at the Newnham Campus (Don Mills and Finch) is a 3-semester core life skills/vocational program with a recreational/health component. It also offers an opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue further training or education to register for free/optional credit courses in computer, media studies and psychology. A Seneca Certificate is issued upon completion of the core health courses and is required in order to gain the credit grade. The recreational component consists of walking, gym - basketball play, table tennis and badminton.
Health-related weekly courses include: Humour and Health, Music and Health, Health and Wellness (nutrition, stress management), Yoga, Gymnasium - badminton, table tennis and basketball. Our successes are demonstrated when students show their healthy side in developing new friendships through partnering in games and new strengths identified by themselves and others. There are challenges with multiple health issues that hinder full participation in physical activity
Our program is funded by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. We are willing to consider partnerships. Peer leadership opportunities happen as a part of group dynamics.
